Beyond the Classroom: Centre for Collaborative Education
Durham College’s Centre for Collaborative Education moves learning beyond the classroom. The five-storey, LEED Gold building links studios, maker spaces, lounges, and informal study areas. These shared spaces bring community, disciplines, and people together.
At its centre, the Global Commons and Global Classroom support teaching, conferences, and large College events. Movable partitions allow the space to adapt to program requirements. On the fourth floor, a 20,000-square-foot patient-care facility gives healthcare students a realistic setting in which to practise clinical skills. The Indigenous Centre, alongside the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion offices, cafés and lounges make student support and community part of daily campus life while a dedicated innovation space connects applied research, entrepreneurship, and industry.
