Transforming from the Inside: TCHC Donvale Manor Retrofit
Donvale Manor is a seven-storey seniors’ residence built in 1970. Its renewal pairs better building performance with greater comfort, access, and community.
Guided by Passive House principles, a new envelope will cut energy use through added insulation, airtight construction, heat-recovery ventilation, high-performance glazing, and careful control of thermal bridges. New GFRC and aluminum cladding will give the building a stronger presence on Gerrard Street. Inside, upgraded entrances, lobbies, laundry rooms, offices, and common areas will improve access and wayfinding. New social space will make it easier for residents to meet. This is more than a technical retrofit, it is an investment in daily life.
